OHS volleyball season ends with state loss

(Continued)

“They were a very good serving team, very good at controlling the ball and really good at putting the ball where they wanted,” Ferrara said. “They were very different. They would have a beautiful set to the outside and instead of killing it, they just dropped it over. So we were scrambling to get to the ball. They did a lot of that and they were very good at that. That was their game plan, no doubt about it.”

OHS will lose Herrick, Wells, Rachel Griffing, Maria DiMartin, Michaela Mancini and Sylvia Montanti to graduation in June.

Ferrara announced Tuesday that Herrick earned all-conference honors this season from the Southern Tier Athletic Conference, which selected Wells and Griffing to their all-division teams. Herrick will play for Division I Siena College next season. Ferrara said Wells and Griffing also intend to play volleyball at the next level, adding that Wells is “looking seriously” at D-III Oneonta State and Griffing is narrowing her college choices for next fall.

State triple-header set

The Section Four champion boys soccer teams from Oneonta High and Margaretville will be part of a state quarterfinal triple-header Saturday at Liverpool High, New York State Public High School Athletic Association media content coordinator Joe Agostinelli said Tuesday.

Margaretville (18-0) will play in a Class D state quarterfinal at noon Saturday, when the Delaware League champion Blue Devils face Section Three’s Watertown-Immaculate Heart Central (15-3-1). Margaretville maintained its No. 1 seed in the Section Four Class D Tournament, advancing to states with a 3-2 overtime defeat of third-seeded Davenport (14-4) this past Saturday at the Wright National Soccer Campus in Oneonta. Watertown-IHC was seeded second in the Section Three tournament and upset top-seeded Poland, 2-0, in the final last Friday.
