Fast start leads Franklin's girls to rout over Milford

Unbeaten Franklin received a game-high 23 points from junior Jordan Beers in a 58-20 Tri-Valley League girls basketball victory at Milford on Tuesday.

Beers scored eight points in the first quarter for the Purple Devils (4-0, 2-0), who led, 23-7, after one quarter.

Haley Downin and Marisa Cawley scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the winners.

Milford, which will face Laurens in the Stamford Christmas Tournament on Dec. 27, was paced by Marina Steele’s six points. Steele also contributed 14 rebounds, her varsity-high.

UV 61, Walton 28

Amanda Off scored 12 first-quarter points to lead Unadilla Valley to a 26-5 lead and help the Storm coast to a Midstate Athletic Conference road win.

“I can’t say enough about Off,” Walton coach Gary Backus said. “She must have pulled down 20 boards tonight.”

Off finished with 24 points for UV, which forced 35 turnovers.

Walton was paced by Cortney Miller’s 12 points. The Warriors play at Sidney on Thursday.

Hancock 40, Sidney 39

Kelsey Decker’s team-high 14 points led Sidney, which lost on the road in the Midstate Athletic Conference.

Hancock maintained a one-point lead over the final 1:30.

The Wildcats received 13 points and 11 rebounds from Ashley Banicky. Kayla Barringer contributed eight points and 10 rebounds for Hancock (3-2, 2-1), which is at Schenevus on Thursday.

Harpursville 55, B-G 30

Miranda Drummond scored a game-high 19 points _ 10 of those coming during a 19-4 third-quarter run _ to lead visiting Harpursville to a Midstate Athletic Conference win.

Abbey Smith scored five of team-high 10 points and Taylor Palmatier had four of her eight points as B-G bolted to a 15-8 lead after one quarter. The Bobcats shot 7-for-10 from the floor in the first period.

They followed by going a combined 2-for-15 in the second and third quarters, when Harpursville outscored B-G, 33-6.

“In the second and third quarters, we just didn’t put the ball in the basket, but Harpursville is really good.”

B-G (1-4, 1-1) will host Unatego on Thursday.

Morris 41, Laurens 19

Amanda Flint’s game-high 13 points paced host Morris to a Tri-Valley League victory.

Kelsea Webster contributed eight points for Morris (3-0), which will Deposit at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 27 in the Joan Martin Tournament.

Taylor Kessler’s six points led Laurens.

CV-S 38, G-MU 23

Kylie Graham scored nine of her game-high 11 points in the second half to lead host Cherry Valley-Springfield in the Tri-Valley League.

Olivia Hull contributed nine points for the Patriots, who are off until Jan. 4, when they travel to Franklin.

Victoria Hutzley had five points to lead Gilbertsville-Mount Upton.

Afton 42, Delhi 21

Bailey Sherman had nine points and 10 rebounds to lead Afton to a Midstate Athletic Conference win at home.

Ashley Rogalsky contributed 10 points and Payton Cutting had nine for Afton, which used a 13-point third-quarter run to take a 29-13 lead.

Kaitlin Haynes scored nine points for Delhi.

Afton will play Gilbertsville-Mount Upton in the Harpursville Tourney on Dec. 27.
