FLEISCHMANNS — Michael Hasay, 98, of Fleischmanns, died on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, following a brief illness.
Mr. Hasay was born on July 3, 1914, in Ihorvytsya, Ukraine, the son of Maria Kinjerski and Stephan Hasaj.
He was a carpenter/cabinet maker in Ternopil, Ukraine and continued his trade when he was a refugee in Germany in 1945.
He married Elisabeth Kleebauer on Aug. 6, 1949, in Ulm, Germany; and left for New York City shortly afterwards.
Michael and his wife settled in Fleischmanns in 1955 and together ran the Elisabeth House and Motet on Depot Street until her death in 2007. Mr. Hasay was also a member of the Carpenters Union in Kingston.
Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, reading and working with his hands.
Surviving are his son, George and his wife, Brenda Hasay of Fleischmanns; a brother, Orest Hasaj of Ukraine; and several nieces and nephews of Ukraine and Poland.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hynes Funeral Home.
