Christopher P. Fusscas
ANDES — Christopher P. Fusscas, 103, of Andes, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
Chris was born Dec. 1, 1909, in New York City, the son of Peter and Yanecha (Portochalachi) Fouskas.
He married Genevieve Morse on April 5, 1941, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Margaretville.
Chris was well-known in the Andes-Delhi area as the former co-owner of the Andel Inn also referred to by the local residents as “The Greeks,” along with his brother George.
He was born to immigrant parents in a cold water flat on the Lower East Side of Manhattan near Avenue A and 6th Street. This is where Chris learned at a very early age the meaning of work ethic.
He enjoyed reading and playing cards and dancing with his beloved wife Genevieve. He spent a year and a half at Columbia University as a medical student.
Chris is survived by his wife, Genevieve of Andes; daughter, Donna Marie Martino of Andes; five grandchildren, Richard McDonald, Rochester, Randy McDonald and wife Sharon of Albany, Robert McDonald and wife Mary, Karen Talbott of the state of Maryland and Seth Emerson and wife Dawn of North Carolina; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Celia Kraker.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Eileen McDonald, on April 13, 2008.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 29, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with Pastor Hiram Davis officiating.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at the funeral home.
