MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Dr. Robert John Kopecek, 76, of Mooresville, N.C., and Delhi, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

He was born on Oct. 21, 1936, in Johnson City, to the late John and Anne Brusil Kopecek.

Dr. Kopecek received his doctorate from the University at Albany. He was an administrator at colleges in Delhi, Schenectady and Utica, and retired from Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, Pa., after 26 years of service as president.

A Presbyterian elder, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mooresville. Bob was a 32nd-degree Mason, a member of many professional organizations and an active volunteer in his community including acting as president of the Northampton County Development Corp., serving on the NC Industrial Development Authority and the Easton Hospital board.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Suzette Goodrich Kopecek; children, David Kopecek and wife Barbara of Delhi, Dr. Karen Bernd and husband Kenneth of Mooresville, N.C.; brother, Dr. Thomas Kopecek and wife, Susan, of Otley, Iowa; and grandsons, John and Joshua Bernd.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 29, at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Fred A. Coates and the Rev. R. Michael McDowell, officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church parlor.

A second memorial service will be held in late June at the First Presbyterian Church, Delhi, followed by interment services in Woodland Cemetery.
