RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Sylvia Snyder Landers, 74, of Richfield Springs, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013, at her home.
She was born July 9, 1938, in Amsterdam, the daughter of the late Richard J. and Wava (Yerdon) Snyder. She was raised in Fort Plain and graduated from Fort Plain High School. She attended SUNY Oneonta.
On Aug. 29, 1980, she was united in marriage with David Landers.
Sylvia owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store in Cooperstown. She and her husband owned and operated their farm on Chyle Road before moving to Florida in 1996. Sylvia and David returned to New York and she was employed by The Brookwood School in Cooperstown, where she was the lead teacher in the infant room, which she loved.
Survivors include her husband and her four sons and their wives, Richard and Linda of Joshua, Texas, Donald and Cheri of Sterling, Va., Thomas and Tammi of Santa Monica, Calif., and Robert and Alyce of Rowayton, Conn.; six stepchildren; eight grandchildren; her sister, Betty Jean Short; one niece; two nephews and their children; several cousins; and one special aunt.
She was predeceased by her parents and brothers-in-law, Robert Short, Kenneth Landers and John Landers.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Lyman Johnson officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., where the family will welcome family and friends.
Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.
