PINE HILL — Sydney D. Smith Jr., 80, left this world behind to join his beloved wife, Alice, in “Paradise” on May 3, 2013.
Sydney was a deeply religious man who dedicated his life to his God and Church.
Sydney grew up in Ridgefield Park, N.J. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
Sydney met and married Alice Heym, the love of his life, in 1954. They moved to Hillsdale, N.J., where they raised their four children, Alyson (Lundy), Susan (Skowronski), Stacey(Pender), and Mark Smith.
Sydney and Alice moved to Pine Hill shortly before he retired. He was very active with the Fleischmanns United Methodist Church, where he was a lay speaker.
Sydney leaves behind his children; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his dear brothers, Richard Greenhalgh (wife Polly), and George Smith (Barbara); brother, Fred (predeceased); and his niece and nephews, who all loved him so very much.
Sydney was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. He had a kind and gentle spirit that will be greatly missed.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday, May 10, 2013, at Margaretville Methodist Church, Margaretville, with the Rev. Ralph Darmstadt and the Rev. Larry Dunlop, officiating. Burial will be in Bedell Cemetery following the service.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
