Richard C. Scofield Sr.

WALTON — Richard C. Scofield Sr., 71, entered eternal rest after a long illness May 7, 2013.

Richard was born Aug. 29, 1941, in Walton, the son of the late George and Eleanor McCullugh Scofield.

On Oct. 17, he married Gerline Prentice, his loving wife of almost 55 years, at the United Presbyterian Church in Walton.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Gerline; two sons; Richard Jr. and wife Barbara and Joe Scofield and special friend Loretta; three daughters, Cindy Buteau and husband Dan, Laurie Rivenburg and husband Fred and Julie Scofield and special friend Jim; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Richard was predeceased by three brothers, Bruce, George (Bill) Jr. and Gary Scofield; and one sister, Barbara Mullineaux.

Richard worked 42 years at Amphenol, retiring at the young age of 62. He really enjoyed his job and the people he worked with. Dick also trucked full-time as well, hauling feed, coal, wood and milk for area farmers.

Dick and Geri took pride in restoring their home while raising their five children.

After his retirement, Richard spent his days lending a helping hand to others. He took pride in his garden as well, and loved his fresh vegetables. Some of his favorite pastime was watching NASCAR and old Westerns. He loved visiting with family and friends. Richard will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his easy smile and devotion to his family.

Friends and relatives are invited to call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the Walton Cemetery.
