LAURENS — Nettie P. Solovitch, 82, of Laurens, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at her residence.

Nettie was born Aug. 24, 1931, the daughter of Alford and Myrtle (Banker) Packer. She married Andy Solovitch on July 16, 1950.

She was a loving mother, grandma and Big Grandma. She enjoyed family parties, car rides, spotting bald eagles, proud to be an American, the warmth of the sun on her body. Spring was her favorite time of year. She loved to see the green of the grass and leaves and the flowers of spring.

Nettie graduated in 1948 from Oneonta High School. In her early years, she worked as a legal secretary. She later became a homemaker and stayed home with her kids. She worked at Fox Nursing Home from 1985 to 1987, then at A.O. Fox, Central Processing Unit from 1987 to 2001.

Nettie enjoyed traveling. She traveled the whole Eastern Coast. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, bird watching, especially the robins in spring, going out to eat, playing cards, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

She was a “tough old broad.”

Nettie is survived by her children, Drew Solovitch, Mark (Kelly) Solovitch, Tim Solovitch and Lynne Solovitch; grandchildren, Jane (Dan) Utter, Kristopher (Taka) Solovitch, Teri, Dustin and Summer Solovitch; great-grandchildren, Kaede Ogi, Rebecca Velasco, Natasha, Rylee and Ashton Solovitch, Dylan and Austin Utter; daughter-in-law, Barb Champlin; pets, Fluffy, Little Babe, Scrappy; and the chickens.

She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Alford Packer; ex-husband, Andy Solovitch; and daughter-in-law, Donna Solovitch.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 14, at Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, with Mother Sue Cole officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 13, at the funeral home.
