---- — Mildred Ann Saggese

ONEONTA — Mildred Ann Saggese, 93, a lifelong Oneonta resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

She was born on Sept. 11, 1920, in Worcester, the daughter of the late Percy and Pearl (Moak) Warner. Mildred was a proud graduate of Worcester High School in 1938.

On Oct. 2, 1943, she married Frank R. Saggese in Alliance, Neb., and celebrated 47 years together until Frank’s passing in May of 1991.

Mildred was a former sales associate at Bresee’s Department Store, where she worked for 20 years and retired in 1977.

In her spare time, Mildred was an avid reader and was rarely seen without a book in her hands. She also loved playing bingo, always looking forward to her Tuesday night bingo games, and taking trips to Atlantic City.

She will be remembered fondly as a very warm and generous woman, who was always ready to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. Her pride and joy was living in and taking care of the house that she and her husband built together. However, her life’s passion was spending as much time as she could with her loving family.

Mildred is survived by her son, Gordon A. Saggese and his wife, Karen of Oneonta; her daughters, Frances Smith and her husband, Caryl of Broadalbin, and Linda Seiler and her husband, Thomas of Mayfield; and her daughter-in-law, Marcia Saggese of West Laurens. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mildred was predeceased by her son, Michael R. Saggese; her brothers, Donald and George Warner; and her sister, Ethel Weber.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public calling hours or funeral services at this time.

A graveside service will be held later in the spring at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, Mildred’s family requests that you kindly consider a charitable donation in her memory to the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Mildred’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of the A.O. Fox Nursing Home and the staff at Catskill Hospice for the very kind and compassionate care she received there.
