ONEONTA — Virginia “Moonface” Pitt, 81, died unexpectedly, Friday, Nov. 9, 2012. at Albany Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 6, 1931 in Chester, Mass., the daughter of William and Marion (Harris) Hathaway.

Virginia married Alpheus Seth Jones Jr. who died in 1959. She then married Willard Pitt who died in 1993.

While living in Chester, Mass., Virginia was an organist for the First Congregational Church and the United Methodist Church. When she moved to Worcester, she became active with the Worcester United Methodist Church, as an organist, on the board of trustees and a volunteer. She was a past member of Pocahontas.

Virginia had several jobs, including a waitress at Howard Johnson’s, a CNA at The Meadows and Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, and she worked at Cortland Grinding Wheels. She had a love of the arts and crafts, knitting and traveling.

She is survived by her son, Jonathan and wife, Linda Jones of Middlefield, Mass.; a daughter, Veronica Jones of Oneonta; three grandchildren, Helen Marie, Jason and Crystal; and three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Amber and Connor.

She was predeceased by a son, Curtis Jones, and a brother, William Hathaway Jr.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the funeral starting at 1 p.m. thereafter, at the United Methodist Church, Main Street, Worcester, with the Rev. Susan Wenner, pastor, and assisted by the Rev. Judith Thistle.

Interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.
