Nancy E. Peters

Nancy E. Peters

EXETER — Nancy E. Peters, 61, of the Town of Exeter, died unexpectedly at her home on County Highway 16, on Saturday Dec. 14, 2013.

Born May 29, 1952, at Bassett Hospital, Nancy was the daughter of Lyle U. and Eleanor (Hubbard) Reynolds of Cooperstown.

She graduated from Cooperstown Central School in the Class of 1970 and within a month began working at Bassett Hospital. An accredited medical coder, she retired from Bassett in May of 2013.

Nancy’s life outside of work was dedicated to her home and family. Her family always came first and she treasured every minute she spent with them. She especially enjoyed spring and summer days, and the family’s many “summer time” picnics. She loved feeding and watching all varieties of birds, was an avid reader of mysteries, loved animals, and was especially fond of her cats — always having two or three in her care at any time.

Nancy is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Peters; son, Brett Utter and his significant other, Heather Minnich of Newington, Conn.; her grandson, Matthew Utter; brother, Steven Reynolds of Cooperstown, brother, Edward Reynolds (Judy) of Cooperstown and their son, Michael. She is also survived by three stepchildren, Mark Peters of Cape Cod, Mass., Jaci Lamb of Cape Coral, Fla. and John A. Lamb of Exeter; five step-grandchildren; and her three cats, Zoey, Joey and Shadow.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home, 28 Pioneer St., Cooperstown, with the Rev. Bill Delia of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until service time.

Burial and committal will occur in the spring on the family plot in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.

For those who so desire, and in recognition of Nancy’s love of animals, the family suggests that contributions be made in her memory to the Susquehanna SPCA, 4841 State Highway 28, Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Arrangements are under the guidance of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown.
