SPRINGFIELD CENTER — Roger R. DeRonda of Springfield Center died Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at the Alpine Rehab and Nursing Center in Little Falls after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Peekskill on Aug. 10, 1918, to Irving F. and Augusta (Roll) DeRonda.
Roger’s lifelong love was his wife of 72 years and his family and friends.
He retired from Standard Brands in 1978, and moved to Springfield Center to pursue his love of farming which he did until recently with the help of his family.
Roger also served as a Town Justice for the town of Springfield for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; four sons, Roger F. of Putnam Valley, Albert W. and wife Diane of Berea, Ky., Garry C. and wife Arlene of Spring Hill, Fla., Dennis A. and wife Susan of Stanfordville; and one daughter, Darlene F. Barnhart and husband Michael W. of Springfield Center. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marion Vogt and Gloria (Cookie) Roy.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl DeRonda; and sisters, Thelma Finnigan, Dorothy Criniti and Gloria DeRonda.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley with the Rev. Lyman Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at noon on Friday, Dec. 27 at the funeral home.
