MARGARETVILLE — Ronald J. Archibald, 75, died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Margaretville, to Ralph and Mildred (Ackerley) Archibald on Feb. 4, 1938.
He married Carol Fredenburgh in 1961 in Margaretville.
He was a lifelong resident in the area working for the Delaware County Highway Department, New York City Department of Conservation as a watershed inspector and electrician’s assistant.
He was a 53-year member of the Margaretville Fire Department, during which time he served as chief and assistant chief. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and puttering in his wood shop.
He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960. He is survived by his wife, Carol; their son, Jeff Archibald; daughter and son-in-law, Julie (Archibald) and Patrick Dunn; granddaughters, Lindsay Gavette, Baily Dunn and Mackenzie Dunn; brothers, Randy and wife, Dottie Archibald, and Robert
Archibald. Ron is also survived by several nieces and nephews and the “Crew at Camp 13.”
He was predeceased by his sister, Dawn.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville with services at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at the funeral home.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Margaretville Fire Department or Catskill Area Hospice.
