WEST EXETER — Donald C. Armstrong, 82, of West Exeter, passed away Jan. 30, 2014, at home.
He was born Aug. 9, 1931, in Utica, the son of Willard L. and Joanna Matthews Armstrong.
Donald attended and graduated from West Winfield Central School Class of 1949. He graduated from Cornell University Agriculture Program in 1951. While in college, Donald was a member of the ROTC.
On June 12, 1955, he married Elnora J. Brownrigg at Burlington Flats Methodist Church. She passed away on March 15, 1997. Mr. Armstrong was a retired dairy farmer.
Donald was a member of Farmers Lodge No. 553 F&AM for over 50 years. He was a past Master of the lodge, and a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, and a Shriner with Ziyara Temple.
Mr. Armstrong was a member of West Exeter United Methodist Church. Don was a charter member of West Exeter Fire Department, where he was past assistant chief, and past president.
He was a former member of the Town Board of Exeter, having proudly served 47 years, 26 of which as supervisor.
He was a member of Burlington Flats Fish and Game Club; a former member of the pistol league; and a member of the NRA. He was a past member of the Dairyman’s League, Eastern and other agricultural organizations and wildlife organizations.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Jim Murphy, West Winfield; son and daughter-in-law, Todd D. and Tina Armstrong, Elkridge, Md.; grandchildren, Sean and Jennifer Murphy, West Winfield, Erin Murphy, Buffalo, and Stephen and Thomas Armstrong, Elkridge, Md.; great-grandson, Kaiden Murphy, West Winfield; sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Robert Chase, West Winfield; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Joyce Armstrong, West Winfield and Keith and Ursula Armstrong, Viera, Fla.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Maude Willems, West Winfield, Violet and Charles Winchell, Edmeston, Marjorie and Wayne Nellis, Oneonta, and Elizabeth Brownrigg, Burlington Flats; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
The family offers special thanks to Dr. Paul Tirrell, Dr. Charles Schaeffer, Dr. Derek Ratliff and Ethel Mills.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at West Exeter United Methodist Church. Farmers Lodge No. 553 F&AM will conduct ritualistic services at the church.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 365 West Main St., West Winfield.
Spring interment will be in West Exeter Cemetery.
