SANFORD, Fla. — Lawrence E. “Larry” Darlin passed away on Jan. 20, 2014, in Sanford, Fla.
He was born Dec 4, 1922 in Bainbridge, to Hobart and Frances Bennet Darlin.
He attended school in Oneonta and on Oct. 21, 1942, enlisted in what was then the Army Air Corps. He received schooling at Fort Logan, Colorado and the Adjutant General’s School at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss. He served three years in the European Theater stationed in England. He was assigned to a bomb squadron where he worked in headquarters.
He married Beatrice Goodrich on May 3, 1943. Upon his discharge, he made his home in Wells Bridge. He became Postmaster in August 1945 and retired in December 1977.
Larry helped organize and was a charter member of the Wells Bridge Fire Department. He was an active member for 39 years.
After spending several winters in Florida, he and his wife moved to Sanford, Fla., in October 1987.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Bea; and his son, Gregg (Sally) Darlin; grandchildren, Sherri (Kenneth) Strawn, Richard Darlin Jr., Kyle Darlin, Kristin Darlin; great-grandchildren, Meagan Strawn, Marisa Strawn, Logan Strawn, a great-great-granddaughter, Kaydence Crowe; nephews, Dennis (Daughn) Darlin, Steven Darlin; and niece, Denise Beach.
He is predeceased by his brothers, Clarence and Stanley, a son, Richard and a daughter, Debra.
