Jean Evelyn (Tarbox) Butler
It is with deep sadness that we notify you of the unexpected passing of Jean Evelyn (Tarbox) Butler, born June 17, 1942, in Cooperstown. She passed peacefully on Jan. 26, 2014.
Jean was a devoted member of the VFW and American Legion where she volunteered as a historian and chaplain for several years.
She was an avid card player and animal lover.
Jean and her husband, Roger Butler were married in 1979, for 35 years, they resided in Golden, Colo., before retiring then moved to Gunnison, Colo., where they enjoyed an active retirement that included fishing at the lake, going to the parades and Farmer’s market and volunteering at the VFW.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Butler; her sister, Joan Shevalier; six children, Cindy, Norma, Ronald, Roger, Bonnie and Melissa; 23 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her twin brother, John (Jack)Tarbox; mother, Margaret and father, Orville; and many other family and friends.
Jean will be laid to rest near many of her family in Hartwick Seminary Cemetery, just outside of Cooperstown in the spring.
