SOUTH VALLEY — Dennis J. Young, 70, of South Valley, passed away at Otsego Manor on Feb. 7, 2014.

He was born in Cooperstown on Oct. 5, 1943, the son of Alva and Rhoda (Proper) Young.

Dennis had a great love of nature, having worked many years for the Leatherstocking Corp. of Cooperstown, in their greenhouse, also Belvedere Lake Resort, as their grounds keeper, and at Kasson & Keller of Fonda.

Dennis spent the majority of his life in the South Valley and Cherry Valley area. His special interests included watching his Giants play football and his deep love for animals, especially his horses.

He is survived by brothers, Jim (Suzanne) Young, Sloansville, Clinton Young, Cherry Valley, Thomas Young, South Valley; and his sisters, Evelyn (Phillip) Bach, Crockett, Texas, June Gonzalez, Manhatten, Kan.; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, cousins and aunts.

Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Alva and Rhoda; and brothers, Robert and Alva (John) Young.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday the 11th of February at the Ottman Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Lyman Johnson officiating.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday the 10th of February, at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the spring in the Young family section of the Roseboom Cemetery, Roseboom.
