Donald L. Adkins

OTEGO — Donald L. Adkins, 82, went to be with The Lord, Jan. 12, 2014, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.

He was born July 26, 1931, in Cranford, N.J., the son of Monroe and Viola (Bernard) Adkins.

Don spent the majority of his life in New Jersey, retiring to New York in the early 1990’s. He was an active member at the Elks Lodge and VFW, where he was a past commander of Post 192.

He was a devoted father, who had a servant’s heart.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Adkins; his children, David Lindsay (Jennifer) Adkins of California, Kathleen Stevens of New York, Virginia (Steven) Witmer of Virginia, Jeffrey (Teresa) Duplacy of New York, Colleen Tarrats of New York, Maureen (Dennis) Govorcin of South Carolina, Timothy (Amy) Adkins of New York, Kelly (Tom) Stocker of New Jersey, Veronica (Ray) DeGraff of New York, Rebecca Adkins of Pennsylvania; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, William Adkins, granddaughter, Elizabeth Adkins, brother, Mike Adkins and sister, Shirley Tieman.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Bruce McCardel pastor at the Susquehanna Valley Baptist Church, officiating.
