Marie B. Welch
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Marie B. Welch, 84, a longtime resident of Oneonta, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va.
Born in Mechanicville, to Anthony Zullo and Mary Cimino Zullo on Dec. 8, 1929, she was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Edward J. Welch Jr. (2010), and brothers, Anthony and John Zullo.
She was a devoted mother, wife and sister, who managed to combine both a successful career and her family responsibilities. She retired from a 40-year career with Bendix/Amphenol Corporation where she worked as an aerospace inspector. She was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Order of Elks and Italian-American Club.
Marie had a lifelong passion for travel and was an enthusiastic bridge player, bingo player and enjoyed cooking. Her home was always a focal point for family and friends.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Donna Marie Welch (William de Laat) of Lexington, Va.; son, Edward J. Welch III (Judy) of Sidney; sisters, Ann Campana of Williamsburg, Va., and Frances Hess (Wayne) of West Laurens; and brother, Leonard Zullo (Elise) of Naples Fla. She will be dearly missed by them and her grandchildren, Justin Placilla (Krystal), Sarah Harris (Chris), Benjamin Placilla (Kelly), Andrea de Laat (Chris) and Derek de Laat; as well as 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 221 West Nelson St., Lexington, Va.
