HARPERSFIELD — Edward James Slicer, 76, passed away at his home on March 12, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Born May 19, 1937, the son of Margaret (Leavey) and Edward Slicer. Ed moved to Arena in 1943, at age 7, lived in Margaretville, Bovina, Andes and Jefferson.
He was a dairy farmer for 39 years and loved his registered Holsteins, bowling, hunting, fishing, watching high school basketball and line dancing.
Ed served on the Board of Directors of the Delaware County Holstein Club, as president of Eastern Local Milk Producers, Committee-man on ASCS (10 years), Jefferson School Board (seven years), Jefferson Budget Committee (five years) and Board of Assessment Review Town of Harpersfield.
He was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus and a parishioner of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Stamford.
Ed will be remembered with love by his wife, Sonja; children, Wanda Cole, Stephanie (Bob) Frankel, Diane Stevens, Edward, James, Terry (Brad) Straight, William (Mischele) Jeremias, Robb (Danielle) Snyder, James (Catherine) Snyder; 22 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, Henry.
Friends may call at the Hall-Tari Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford, from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Michael G. Cambi, pastor, in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Stamford at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014. Interment will follow the Mass in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
