ONEONTA — Thomas K. Eggers, 69, of Laurens, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Thomas was born on May 29, 1944, in Astoria, Queens, the son of the late Joseph and Ann (Berrell) Eggers.

Thomas married Sara DiBlasi on Feb. 27, 1970, in Brooklyn.

He was a meat cutter for more than 30 years, working for Larry’s Custom Meats in Hartwick as well as other stores. He started his career in New York City, later moving to Long Island and then the Laurens area where he retired in 2012.

He was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Laurens. He loved to talk about politics, was a fan of Rush Limbaugh and Fox News. He was an animal lover.

Mostly, he loved his family. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sara Eggers of Laurens; his son, Eric Eggers of Bixby, Okla.; and his daughter, Stacey Eggers of Laurens. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Samantha, Sydney and Erin Eggers; his great-grandson, Kendrick Deckard; a special cousin, Jimmy McIntyre; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, in the Lutheran Church of Atonement, 1 Center St., Oneonta, with Rev. Paul Messner, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be at a later date in the Laurens Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, at which time the family will be in attendance.
