CHERRY VALLEY — Mr. George A. Yerdon Jr., 77, of Cherry Valley, passed away unexpectedly at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, on Tuesday, the 25 of March.
He was born July 23, 1936, in Cooperstown, the son of George Sr. and Flossie (Kane) Yerdon.
On Oct. 11, 1953, he married the former Lillian Young, they were married for 57 years before her passing.
His roots were in farming, on the Yerdon Brothers Dairy Farms, trucking hay and straw throughout the state and in his later years Deputy Highway Supervisor for the Town of Middlefield, from which he retired on January of 2011.
George is survived by two sons and their wives, George III and Kimberly Yerdon, Daniel and Jennifer Yerdon, both of Cherry Valley; and a daughter, Wanda and her husband, Thomas Armstrong of Jordanville; four brothers, David Yerdon and family, Everett Yerdon and family, Alan Yerdon and family, Roger Yerdon and family; one sister, Kathryn Lane and husband; grandchildren, Adam and his wife, Kelly, Brenda and her husband, Kyle, Joshua and his wife, Jennifer, Justin and his wife, Jessica, James and Alicia, Michael and Brandon; and great-grandchildren, Brenna and Emma, Xander and Jadyn and Elise.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. March 29, 2014, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Lyman Johnson officiating. Calling hours will be on Friday, March 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Cherry Valley Cemetery in the spring.
