Robert L. Zemkin
DAVENPORT — Robert L. (Bob) Zemkin, 84, of Davenport, died Tuesday evening, March 25, 2014, at home.
Beloved husband of Evelyn for 56 years, father of Robert, Bob lived a life full of joy and adventures, large and small.
Living in Stamford he and his wife owned a farm on Peck Street. When they retired they moved to the Adirondacks for 15 years. There they eventually built and lived in a large one-room cabin and traveled to Colorado, in the winter to be with their son.
Bob was born in Amsterdam, served in the U.S. Army, and graduated from Oneonta State Teachers College.
He was a fourth grade teacher at Stamford Central School, and prior to teaching worked for Davey Tree Company.
Bob’s life was defined by his dedication to his students, his love of the outdoors and a spirit of giving wherever he saw a need. He was devoted to his wife and son, sisters, nieces and good friends.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; and his beloved son, Robert.
There will be no calling hours.
A service of memorial to this good man will be held at the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, Route 23, Davenport at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon, March 30, 2014, with the Rev. Carol Wilson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 184, Davenport, NY 13750.
