Virginia C. Hurtubise
ONEONTA — Virginia C. Hurtubise, 88, a longtime resident of Oneonta, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013, at Bassett Hospital, surrounded by her family, following a long illness.
She was born Nov. 10, 1924, in Oneonta, to Michael and Philomena (Scott) Chicorelli.
She graduated from Oneonta High School in 1942.
She worked in procurement for the U.S. Navy in Washington, D.C., and AT&T as a telephone operator before the company broke up.
Virginia married Eugene C. Hurtubise on Sept. 3, 1953, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta, who survives.
She was predeceased by her brother, Dominic M. Chicorelli; and two sisters, Mary Weirheim and Angie Gravelin.
She is survived by a brother, Louis Chicorelli, who is living in Long Island. She is also survived by two sons, Mark and Gary Hurtubise; and a daughter, Sharon Hurtubise; two grandchildren, Amber Typlt and Jennifer Zinis.
Virginia loved dancing. She and her husband met dancing and danced together many years after. She also loved bowling and bowled weekly for much of her life, she was very good at it.
She had a strong love and appreciation for art, two of her brothers were very talented artists; one showed his works in NYC and Long Island, which she and her husband traveled to see.
She was an excellent cook and baker. She cooked delicious meals for her family every night. Most of all, true to her Italian heritage, she thoroughly enjoyed dining out at Italian restaurants.
Virginia was a loving grandmother with a kind, generous heart. With her zest for life and spicy personality, life was never boring in her presence. She lived her life to the fullest, always.
She was loved dearly by her family and will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
A funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Ben Ampong, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
