Dorothy Ellen Bruce Hicock
GARRATTSVILLE — Dorothy Ellen Bruce Hicock of Garrattsville, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013.
She was born on Nov. 20, 1927, at Mrs. Parshall’s in Oneonta, the daughter of Howard Bruce and Helen M. Hillis. She graduated in 1945 from Southampton High School, South Hampton, Long Island and from Cornell University’s College of Arts And Sciences in 1949.
She was married May 22, 1973, at Heritage Village in Southbury, Conn., to Amos Mitchell Hicock, who predeceased her in 1998.
She worked for Erie Resector Corp., then Schlumberger Well Surveying Corp., then Grolier Enterprises, retiring in 1989. She abstracted for Chemical Abstracts for 10 years. She was interested in handcrafts, gardening and genealogy and was a member of The Connecticut Society of Genealogists, Central New York Genealogical Society, Schoharie County Historical Society and several family associations. Some of her information on different ancestral families has been placed in libraries and on the Internet in Roots Web.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Richard, Donald and Paul and a sister, Eleanor J. Lee.
She is survived by her sister, Marion Salisbury of Midddlefield; two brothers, Frank Bruce of Charleston, W.Va., and Calvin of Tucson, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews, including Dave Bruce of Gibsonburg, Ohio; and many cousins.
There will be no calling hours and no funeral. Burial will take place in Charlotteville Cemetery at a later date.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The Museum of the History of Charlotteville, Charlotteville, NY 12036, in Dorothy’s memory.
