Lillian Klenick

ONEONTA — Lillian Klenick of Oneonta died peacefully on Nov. 9, 2013.

She was born at home in Binghamton’s First Ward to Russian Immigrant parents, Helen (Pitlantic) and Michael Cleney on March 30, 1931. The last name of Lillian and her older siblings was somehow translated to Klenick when they enrolled in school.

Lillian was predeceased by her parents; as well as her sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Edward) Jachimowicz; and brother, Andrew Klenick.

She is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, John (Ingrid) Cleney and Michael (Kathy) Cleney; several nieces and nephews, Marilyn (Paul) Gebauer, Connie (Steve) Kattell, Michael (Kim) Cleney, Brenda Thurston and Andrew (Holly) Cleney; 11 great-nieces/nephews; and five great-great-nieces/nephews. Lillian is also survived by the family of Dave and Succaro (Mary) Marin of Hancock, who provided a wonderful home to her for many years.

Lillian was a longtime employee at the Arc in Hamden. She was a hard worker who took great pride in earning a paycheck.

When not working, Lillian enjoyed cooking, baking, looking for recipes in magazines, crocheting, jewelry making and doing arts and crafts at Arc’s programs in Delaware and Otsego Counties. Shopping, eating at local diners, finding words in her “puzzle books,” watching TNT, playing cards and working on jigsaw puzzles were her favorite past times.

Lillian enjoyed visits with family in Binghamton and Philadelphia. She also traveled to such places as France, Florida, Virginia and the Jersey shore.

Special thanks to all the dedicated staff and family care providers from the Arc’s and Broome DDSO Programs in both Delaware and Otsego counties who loved and cared for our sister and aunt throughout the years.

Private funeral services were held on Nov. 14, 2013.

A celebration of Lillian’s life will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at The Arc Otsego’s Oneonta Day Services, 63 Lower River St., Oneonta.

Donations in Lillian’s memory may be made to The Arc Otsego, P.O. Box 490, Oneonta, NY 13820 and/or The Arc of Delaware County, Main Office, 34570 State Highway 10, Walton, NY 13856.
