MILFORD/OTEGO — Robert G. Earing, 83, a former longtime resident of Milford, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at his home in Otego.

Born April 21, 1930, in Essex, N.J., the son of Alfred and Frances (Domion) Earing, Bob moved to the Milford area with his family when he was a youngster. He attended Milford Central School. Following high school Bob enlisted and served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1948 to 1951. He was a member of the Laurens American Legion Post.

Bob was a lover of nature and the out-of-doors. He looked for any excuse to be out doors, whether for a hike, a walk in the woods or just to watch the beauty and panorama of nature. He learned to fly as a young man and enjoyed observing nature both from the air and also while riding the roads on his Harley. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

A heavy equipment operator, Bob was a proud 50-year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He could operate nearly every type of heavy equipment and was well known for his precision, meticulous nature and attention to detail in everything he did. He was involved in numerous local (and distant) construction projects, among them, the construction of I-88 and numerous construction projects at Hartwick College, SUNY Oneonta and SUNY Cobleskill.

Bob was predeceased by his wife, Jean in 1994.

He is survived by his son, Robert D. Earing (Tammy) of Valrico, Fla., and their children; and also by his very special friend, Beth Scott of Otego.

Graveside committal services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 30, in the Westville Cemetery in Westville at with Stephen D. Fournier, Pastor of the Milford Center Community Bible Church officiating.

Arrangements are under the guidance of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown.
