Delhi — William “Billy” C. Van Tassel, 66 years old, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, after a short illness at his home in Delhi.
Born to William and Doris Van Tassel in Sussex, N.J., he was a lifelong resident of Sussex before moving to Delhi in 2004.
Billy served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War and then worked as a mailman for the United States Postal Service in Sussex, N.J. for 35 years, retiring in 2002. He also served as a policeman for Sussex Borough and the Court Officer for Wantage Township., N.J. for many years and was an Exempt Member of the Sussex Fire Department.
He was a member of the Pvt. Charles Auberger American Legion Post No. 213 in Sussex, N.J. and the American Legion Post No. 190 in Delhi.
He enjoyed woodworking and hunting, and was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Van Tassel was predeceased by his father, William Van Tassel (2004). He was the beloved husband of Sandra Van Tassel (nee Hosking) of Delhi. He was the loving son of Doris Van Tassel of Sussex, N.J. He was cherished by his beloved kitty cat, Muppett.
The family will receive their friends at Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third St., Sussex, N.J. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Sussex, N.J. Memorial gifts to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820 would be appreciated.
