MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Ann passed away Christmas night, Dec. 25, 2012, after a brief illness. Although a long time Oneontan, for the last several years she lived in Memphis, Tenn., in the loving care of her daughter.

She was buried in Glenwood Cemetery with her family on Oct. 3, 2013, in a private ceremony.

Ann was born Oct. 30, 1931, to Wesley S. and Ellen (Smith) Hoffman in Oneonta. She attended Percy I. Bugbee School and graduated from Oneonta High School in 1949.

She was a member of the Majorette team and remained active in OHS Reunion activities for many decades. Ann graduated from Stephens Junior College, Springfield, Mo., in 1951, and Syracuse University in 1953, majoring in home economics.

Ann was an avid horsewoman, taking after her grandfather, William H. Hoffman. She specialized in three- and six-gaited Western riding, appearing in shows and winning prizes. After college, she was employed as a Home Service representative for the Columbia Gas Co. in Salem, Ohio.

In 1956, she married Robert J. Paradis and moved to Akron, Ohio. She assisted her husband with the management of his two companies, Radio Parts and Service Co. and the U.S. Naviguide Corp., and together they had two children. Mr. Paradis passed away on Dec. 25, 1973. In 1989, she married Guy Maddalone of Schenevus, who died in 1990.

Ann returned to Oneonta soon after the death of her first husband. She assisted in the management of her family’s business, the Hoffman Dry Cleaning Co. Later she purchased the R. E. Brigham Jewelry Co., which she operated until 1983. In 1984, she joined the County Board of Elections where she served as the Deputy Republican Commissioner until her retirement in 1996.

In addition to her business endeavors, Mrs. Paradis-Maddalone was active for a number of years in the Oneonta Business Women’s Association, Otsego County Women’s Republican Club, and the Otsego County Republican Committee.
