PENN YAN — Curtis W. Barker died unexpectedly at his home on West Bluff Drive, on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013.
Curt was born July 23, 1927, in Rochester and later resided in Honeoye Falls, Bloomville; retiring to Keuka Lake.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane, of 60 years; his daughters, Jennifer L. Sawyer (William), Lisa J. Kanaley (James) and Sarah J. Rice, (Jeffry); five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces, nephews and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven, who was general manager and CEO of Delhi Telephone Company after serving in the Coast Guard.
Curt graduated from East High in Rochester, spent a short tour in the U.S. Navy before attending St. Lawrence University and Albany Law School; receiving his BA and JD respectively. A practicing attorney in Honeoye Falls and the Rochester area for more than 35 years, he then took an active role in the Delhi Telephone Company. He and his wife moved to Keuka Lake and enjoyed the Finger Lakes area ever since.
Curt served the Delhi Telephone Company as general manager, CEO, president and president emeritus for nearly 28 years. He also participated in state and national associations, furthering his service to the telecommunication industry and community. A long-time Rotarian, Curt was a member of the Rotary Club in Delhi and the SUNY Delhi College Foundation.
Curt will be remembered as a thoughtful, caring and gentle man who showed his love of family, friends, colleagues and others of his community through his participation and commitment to others. Curt touched many lives through his actions in volunteerism, leadership and guidance in the multitude of activities throughout his life.
In honor of Curt, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
The Delhi Telephone Company will also honor Curt at a remembrance gathering at the company in early November.
