Mary Jane Wilson
COOPERSTOWN — Mary Jane Wilson, 73, of Williams Road, Cooperstown, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, Oct. 24, 2013, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
Born May 22, 1940, and raised in Arcade, Mary Jane was the daughter of Ward G. and Lois S. (Waite) Mayer.
She received her degree as a registered nurse from the University of Buffalo in 1962.
She married Dr. Gerard F. Wilson in Arcade on July 21, 1962. Jerry and Mary Jane moved to Cooperstown in 1964, where Jerry established his dental practice on Main Street. Mary Jane was employed at Bassett Hospital as a RN for many years. Among others her roles at the hospital included serving in the operating rooms, on the IV team and in the ASU. She retired in 2003.
Mary Jane who was affectionately known by her family, grandchildren and close friends as “Agnes” or “Ag,” was an avid reader of any and all types and nature of written work, loved tending her flower gardens, travel, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was also an active community volunteer throughout her life, especially at Bassett Hospital, in her church and with the Cooperstown Fire Department Auxiliary.
She was a longtime member of Christ Church, Cooperstown, where she served in many roles.
Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 51 years, Gerard; her son, David M. Wilson (his fiancée, Kathleen M.), and his children, Benjamin, Jacob and Samuel; her son, Douglas G. (Peggy Ann) Wilson and their daughter, Taryn; her daughter, Anne Kathryn Daniels (Steven) and their sons, Cory (Lindsay) and Brandon. She is also survived by her brother, Richard (Candace) Mayer.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ward and Lois Mayer; her brother, Charles W. Mayer; and her brother-in-law, Robert M. Wilson.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Christ Episcopal Church in Cooperstown with the Rev. Mark A. Michael, Rector officiating. A reception in the Christ Church Parish Hall will follow the service.
Burial in the Fly Creek Cemetery will be private and at a later date.
