John T. Renwick Sr.

MILFORD — John T. Renwick Sr., 74, of the town of Milford, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Bassett Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Nov. 30, 1939, in Cooperstown, the son of James W. and Louise (Kukenberger) Renwick Sr.

He was previously married to Shirley Monroe, who survives, and the mother of three of his children; he then married Ethel Merwin, who predeceased him, and was the mother of his last child, and his stepchildren. He is currently married to Robin Yager.

John was a mechanic at the Central Garage for the City of Oneonta, from which he retired in 2002. Following his retirement he continued on as a consultant.

For many years John was a trucker and for a period of time he worked for Schuman B-Line, as well as being in business with his son, John Jr., in later years.

Being raised on the family farm, John was very active in his younger years with the local 4-H Program.

He was an avid Bluegrass enthusiast, and over the years was associated with several local bands, including River Valley Ramblers, the Robinson Brothers and the Wilber Mansion Jammers.

He was a member of the Bainbridge Opry House, and participated in the American Tractor Pulling events.

He is survived by his wife, Robin; his children, Dorraine Young and husband Dale of Otego, Debra Chickerell of Otego, Thomas Renwick and his wife, Barbara of Westville, and John T. Renwick Jr., and his wife, Amanda of Laurens; his stepchildren, Jody, Tony, Douglas, Daniel, Dave, Dorothy, Patricia Ostrander; eight grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by a brother, James Renwick Jr. and his wife, Jaclyn of Burlington; and a sister, Susie Conklin of Cooperstown.

He was predeceased by a brother, Victor Renwick; and a sister, Helen Jewett.
