June Norton Burby
ONEONTA — June Norton Burby, of Oneonta, died on June 13, 2013, at Bassett Hospital following a brief illness. She laid down her burden in the loving circle of her children.
June’s early life on the family farm in Schenevus found her surrounded by family and friends, farm animals and pets, and the ever-present cycles of life. Her passion for helping and caring for people was nurtured there, inspiring her to pursue a career as a Registered Nurse. She touched the lives of many hundreds during her many years in health care and her favorite stretch was the time spent working in maternity, helping new lives into the world.
When not at work, June’s life was spent enjoying her husband, Mort and children, raising them on a rambling hillside farm in Westerlo. She stayed very close to her parents and extended family with frequent visits to see her beloved brothers, big sister and her nieces and nephews and eventually grandkids, who she adored and whose birthdays she always remembered.
She loved crosswords, always filled in with cautiously optimistic erasable pen, swimming, visiting people she loved, cooking and laughter.
Her laughter and kindness, devoted friendship and matter-of-fact approach to life are her legacy to all who loved her, and that includes all whose lives were touched by her.
She leaves behind three sons; one daughter; and 10 grandchildren. Mort, her husband and fellow adventurer of 45 years passed in 2003.
