DELTONA, Fla. — James B. Fawcett, 65, affectionately known to friends and family as Butch and/or Jim and to his teammates as Funk, passed away unexpectedly on May 28, 2013. Butch was born on Sept. 24, 1947.
Butch was a standout wrestler and football player at Oneonta High School and graduated with the Class of 1965. Upon graduation, he was a member of the Oneonta Indians semi-professional football team. He was a longtime employee of NYSEG before moving to Florida, where he was employed by the Florida Power Authority.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, James A. and Alyce Fawcett.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; stepchildren, Sara and Andy and children, Lorinda and Lonnie; sisters, Sheila (Tony), Gail (Mike), Terry, Valerie, Vicky (Pete), Melanie (John); and brothers, Larry (Risa) and Brian (Jackie). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 30, in Orange City, Fla.
Locally, a tree will be planted in Butch’s memory during this October’s Alumni Weekend and a memorial paver will be installed at the Oneonta Memorial Garden behind the high school. Additional information regarding this may be obtained by contacting Brian Fawcett at firstname.lastname@example.org.
