MARGARETVILLE — Ellsworth (Bill) Stahl, 91, resident of Hubbell Hill, Margaretville, died at his residence Monday, Feb. 25, 2013.
Bill was born in Hubbell Hill, Margaretville, the son of Leslie and Ellen (Stephens) Stahl.
He has been married to Doris (Hinkley) Stahl for 67 years, they were married Dec. 31, 1945.
He graduated from Margaretville High School in 1940, and attended Delhi Ag. College. Bill operated the family dairy farm on Hubbell Hill for 44 years.
He won the award for the highest herd average in Delaware County and Superior Production in 1978. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, Dairymen’s League. After selling the herd in 1984, he and his wife, Doris continued to cut and sell hay until 2008.
Bill also produced and sold maple syrup until 2009. Bill and Doris traveled to Branson, Mich., took a dairy tour to the Northwest, visited Disney World.
Bill enjoyed cutting wood, gardening, square dancing, pinochle, reading and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Hinkley Stahl; son, Jerry Stahl and Barbara Meyers of Shokan; daughter, Jeanne Stahl Cushman and husband Bernard Cushman of Louisa, Va.; grandson, Jeremy Cushman and wife Anne of Bluemont, Va.; granddaughter, Jennifer Cushman and Mark Negrin of Charlottesville, Va.; and great-grandson, Benjamin Bernard Philip Negrin of Charlottesville, Va.; niece, Carol Stahl Coburn of Longmont, Colo., niece, Jan Veit Bellair of Arlington, Texas and cousins.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Winona Stahl Kutz of Wappinger Falls and Betty Veit of Margaretville; and a brother, Robert Stahl of Longmont, Colo.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Rev. Donald Klob, officiating.
Calling hours will be from 2 until 4 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at the funeral home.
Committal services will be held in the spring.
Following the service a reception will follow at the family farm, 625 Bill Stahl Road, Margaretville, NY 12455.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care.
