TREADWELL — Henrietta B. “Granny” Ulmer, 85, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at her residence in Treadwell.
She was born on Jan. 29, 1928, in Livingston Manor, the daughter of the late Wesley and Blanche (Martin) Mein. She married Walter Ulmer on Nov. 28, 1947. He predeceased her on June 30, 1997.
Henrietta was a member of the Rolling Antiquers of Norwich and the Aldrich Baptist Church in North Franklin.
She attended Fanny Farmer’s Cooking School in Boston. However, Henrietta’s working career mainly involved the U.S. Postal Service where she was a clerk, primarily in Treadwell but also in Otego and other surrounding communities. She was also a waitress at Perkins Restaurant in Oneonta. Henrietta raised and sold Siamese cats and African Violets.
Henrietta is survived by her son, Leon Ulmer and his wife, Paula of Treadwell; her grandchildren, Diana Ulmer, Shelly Shackelton and her husband, Michael, Loretta Ulmer, Crystal Hadley and her husband, Jason, James Ulmer and his wife, Heidi and Jessica Ulmer. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her two sons, David and Steven.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the Aldrich Baptist Church in North Franklin at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 11, with Pastor Patricia Judd officiating. A reception will follow at the church.
