DELHI — Donald C. “Deke” DeKoeyer, 75, a 43-year Delhi resident, died unexpectedly, Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.
Born Oct. 1, 1937, in Teaneck, N.J., the son of Cornelius and Ida (Messler) DeKoeyer, he enlisted in the U.S. Army (1957 to 1958).
Formerly of Woodridge, N.J., he was an automotive mechanic by trade, owning a gasoline station in Rochelle Park. Since living in Delhi, he worked over 25 years at Delhi College, maintaining mechanical equipment, subsequently, a driver for Delaware Opportunities, over 10 years, and longtime Delhi Town Dog Warden.
Devoted to his family, Deke was an amicable man who enjoyed socializing with his many friends; also hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Marion (Flavell) DeKoeyer; three children, Debbie DeKoeyer (Wayne Blackman), Neal (Kim) DeKoeyer, and Sue (Scott) Pettit; five grandchildren, Eric and Emily Blackman, Davis DeKoeyer, Alex and Katelyn Pettit.
The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, at Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi. Funeral will be private, and burial later in Woodland Cemetery.
