---- — Colin C. Heckmann

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Colin C. Heckmann, 17, of the Town of Exeter, died unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012.

Born July 20, 1995, in Cooperstown, Colin was the son of Dirk and Lisa (Young) Heckmann.

Colin was a well-regarded and popular member of the Junior Class at the Richfield Springs High School. In addition to being a good student he was active in school sports and was a member of the varsity track and soccer team. Outside of school he was involved in other sports and enjoyed all forms of exercise. He was always ready to challenge his friends to the basketball game of “PIG.”

He enjoyed all types of music, shopping at the malls, current fashions, and especially took pride in his collection of hats and jewelry. Because he was such a sensitive, kind, caring and compassionate person who was always “there for others” he had a wonderful circle of loved ones, friends and acquaintances all of whom will miss his presence, smile and sense of humor.

Always industrious, Colin worked a number of summer jobs; most recently he worked at the Cooperstown Country Club.

Colin was predeceased by his grandfathers.

He is survived by his parents; his brother, Derek Heckmann; his sister, Monique Heckmann; by his grandmothers, Margit Wagner of Germany and Dee Young of Lapeer, Mich.; by his uncles, Casten Zemlak of Germany, Tony and Nick Young of Belgrade, Mont.; his aunts, Andrea Young of Lapeer, Mich., and Danni Hylton of Germany; by many cousins; and by his two best friends, Jerald Gardner and Joe Barra.

A celebration of Colin’s life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, in the Richfield Springs Elementary School gymnasium. A reception in the elementary school cafeteria will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made c/o Dirk Heckmann, 7099 State Highway 28, Hartwick, NY 13348 for credit to a charity to be determined.

Arrangements are under the supervision of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown.
