LaFAYETTE, Calif. — Dr. Henry (Hank) F. Warnken, 90, of LaFayette, Calif., loving father and adventurous spirit, died peacefully Jan. 9, 2013, at the Bruns Hospice House in Alamo, Calif. His family is grateful for the years of shared adventures, interesting conversations, support and love.

Hank was born in Oneonta Oct. 16, 1922, to William and Margarete Warnken. Hank attended Haverford College and served proudly in the infantry 84th division during WWII. In 1947, he married Mary Ellen Parce in Oneonta and then moved to California to attend the University of California at Berkeley where he obtained a PhD in Psychology.

He was employed by the Mt. Diablo School District for more than 30 years as a teacher, respected school psychologist, special education administrator and Treat Learning Center director.

Hank was an avid duck and pheasant hunter, sailor and fisherman. He enjoyed outdoor activities and loved having a list of projects to do. He inspired his children to attain higher education and to seek out that which inspired them, to pursue their dreams, to love travel and to be independent thinkers.

Hank is survived by his four children and six grandchildren, Donna (John) Warnken-Brill and their children, Sam and Anna, Elizabeth Brackmann and her children, Kati and Karl Nottelmann, Jan O’Mara and her children, MaryAnn and Sarah Beth; and his son, Frederick Warnken.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Warnken.

A private family memorial will be held later.
