Jane E. Denmeade

HARTWICK — Jane E. Denmeade, 75, of Hartwick, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013.

Born July 12, 1937, in Island Park, Long Island, she was the daughter of John and Sophie (Wittschieben) Alpers. Raised on Long Island, she graduated from Oceanside High School.

She married Robert E. Denmeade on Dec. 9, 1956, and, while raising their children, worked for many years in the New York City area.

In 1976, Bob, Jane and their children moved to their Hartwick home, and Jane began working in the Otsego County Real Property Tax Office in Cooperstown, where she worked for 20 years, retiring in 1997.

Jane was an avid “coupon re-funder,” loved flower gardening, (especially tending to her many, many varieties of hosta), enjoyed all types of card, number and word games, and also loved cooking (especially German recipes) and collecting Fenton glass.

She is survived by her loving husband, Bob, of 56 years; her son, Donald (Candie) of Canastota; her daughter, Lynda Denmeade of Fayetteville; her grandson, Pvt. Jeremy Denmeade (USMC) of Schuyler Lake; her sister, Anita (William) Harrison of Hartwick; her brother-in-law, Donald (Karen) Denmeade of Long Island; her cousin, Constance Mace of Laurens; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home, 28 Pioneer St., Cooperstown, with the Rev. Teressa Sivers, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta and the Rev. Jane Bensley, pastor of the Hartwick and Mount Vision United Methodist Churches, co-officiating. The family will be in attendance at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of the service to receive friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests, for those who so desire, that contributions in Jane’s memory be made to either Hartwick Fire Co. No 1, P.O. Box 86, Hartwick, NY 13348 or to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are under the guidance of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown.
