MARYLAND — Richard (Dick) L. Guthrie, 88, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at his home.
He was born March 29, 1924, in Green, Ohio, the son of Robert and Lauretta (Lamb) Guthrie.
He was a graduate of Greensburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army with the Combat Engineers from 1943 to 1946, in France, Germany, the Philippines and Japan.
He attended Akron University, Ohio State University, and graduated from Parsons Institute of Interior Design in 1952.
He worked free lance with various designers in NYC, he purchased Van’s Floral and Gift Shop in Cherry Valley in 1971, with close friend Kenneth E. Garlinger and operated the business until retirement in 1985.
He was a proud member of the Scottish Clan Guthrie.
Survivors include his sister, Janice Cariens (David) of Kilmarnock, Va.; brother, Harold Guthrie (Peggy) of Akron, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
Dick had many close friends in the towns of Westford, Oneonta, and Maryland who helped him during times when he needed assistance.
The family would especially like to thank Elizabeth Roseboom, Rich Kenyon and Jim Knowles, as they enabled Richard to stay in his home.
A memorial service with military honors and burial will be announced at a later date.
