MARGARETVILLE — Paul A. (Moose) Makara Jr., 82, resident of Arkville, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at the Margaretville Hospital.
He was born July 28, 1930, in the Bronx, the son of Paul A. and Annie (Yockobischn) Makara. Paul was one of 17 children.
He married Mildred E. Runge and celebrated 62 years of marriage.
He joined the U.S. Army on Jan. 8, 1953, and served to Dec. 11, 1954.
Paul worked on heavy construction, driving heavy duty equipment for Teamsters Local 445 located in Newburgh, he retired in 1994.
Paul moved to Arkville in 1975, from Stony Point. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Makara; six children, Thomas Helbig, Richard Helbig, MaryLou Kelly, Kathy Santiago, Jean Fenton and Michael Makara; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
Calling hours will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
Committal services will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Paul A. Makara Jr. may be made to the Arkville Fire Department.
