Andrew A. Tisenchek
ONEONTA — Andrew A. Tisenchek, 84, of Oneonta, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Chestnut Park Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Oneonta.
He was born Feb. 27, 1928, in Brooklyn the son of Emil and Alice (Dorosky) Tisenchek. He married Tina Panko on July 25, 1946.
Andy served in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne during World War II.
For a period of 32 years, retiring in 1990, he worked as a service manager for Sketchley Linen Company based in Oneonta. Prior to that, he worked for the D&H RR and Spaulding Bakery.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church.
Andy served as alderman for the Sixth Ward and served 20 years on the Otsego County Board of Representatives, representing the 13th District. As a representative, he served as chairman for four consecutive years and as a member or chairman of almost every county committee.
He was a member or officer of several state-wide organizations, including the New York State Association of Counties.
He was a loving family man, who took an active role in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was blessed with six great-grandchildren. They brought a twinkle to his eyes and a smile to his face. He was proud of his Polish/Russian heritage and especially loved attending polka festivals where he could dance for hours.
He will be remembered for his laughter and sense of humor, his ability to advise, his patience to listen and his generosity to all who came in contact with him.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Tina Tisenchek of Oneonta; his daughters, Andrea (Victor) Ronovech of Oneonta and Karen Hurley of Oneonta; four grandchildren, Jason (Penny) Ronovech, Sonja Ronovech (Greg Jackson), Matthew Hurley (Wendy Mabie) Courtney (Matt) Gibson; six great-grandchildren, Drew, Taylor, Emily, Ian, Andrew and Nathaniel. He is also survived by two brothers, Louis (Betty) Tisenchek of Oneonta, and Donald (Linda) Tisenchek of Flat Rock, N.C., as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
