SHARON SPRINGS — Betty J. Nikolaus, 65, of Sharon Springs, passed away at the Southeast Georgia Hospital, with family by her side on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, after a brief illness.

Betty was born Aug. 28, 1947, in Cobleskill, a daughter of Joseph and Mildred (Slater) Bailey.

She graduated from Cobleskill High School class of 1965, and was a wonderful wife, mother, homemaker and care provider for many years.

Her hobbies included reading, crafting, RVing, NASCAR, and spending time with family.

She was a member of the East Worcester Fish and Game Club.

She was married to Paul R. Nikolaus on May 6, 1966, and they spent 46 years together until her passing. During their time together they enjoyed traveling, especially the last few years spending the winters in Richlands, N.C.

She is survived by her loving husband, Paul R Nikolaus; her two children, Richard (Sharon) Nikolaus of Cobleskill and Lisa Nikolaus of Sharon Springs; her grandchildren, Mitchell Nikolaus, Joshua Euler, Samantha Euler, Kelly Euler-Smith, and Justin Jankowski; her sisters and brothers, Patricia (Philip) Nikolaus of Central Bridge, Charles (Elaine) Bailey of Colonie, Judith (Mark) Byrnes of Mariaville, Carol (Rodney) Hadselden of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Joseph Bailey Jr. of Texas and Paul (Lorraine) Bailey of Scotia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mary (Raymond) Gates of Greene, Grace Nikolaus of Central Bridge, Charles (Mary) Nikolaus of Summit, Thelma (James) Hornauer of Sharon Springs, Sally (Larry) Crosby of Carlisle, Ruth (Randy) Treadwell of Richlands, N.C.; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and great-grandchildren.

A visitation period will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 108 Chapel St., Cobleskill, followed by a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Nikolaus to the East Worcester Fish and Game Club, P.O. Box, East Worcester NY 12064.
