Elizabeth W. ‘Betty’ Alexander
FRANKLIN — Elizabeth W. “Betty” Alexander, 89, of Franklin, passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, with her loving family at her side.
She was born on June 22, 1923, in Kingston, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Toth) Wygal.
She married Charles S. Alexander Jr., on March 14, 1943, and he predeceased her on Aug. 7, 2005.
Betty graduated from the Poughkeepsie High School, and furthered her education at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
She was a loving and caring person, and enjoyed sharing precious times with her family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Betty cherished her associations and friendships, and was instrumental in creating the Alexander-Smith hospitality tent at the Old Franklin Days.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Franklin.
Betty is survived by her children, Nancy Smith and her husband, Jim of Franklin, Jack Alexander and his wife, Lynn of Crossville, Tenn., and Judy Smith and her husband, Don of Black Creek, N.C.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Ann Maurer of Franklin; and a brother, Joseph Wygel of Menands.
A funeral and committal service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Mary Upright, officiating. Burial will be in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.
