SHINHOPPLE — Love, grace, generosity and courage; Beulah May McQuiston Carpenter, 90, died peacefully on Feb. 14, 2013, in the presence of her family.

A long term resident of Shinhopple, her friendly and welcoming disposition helped her husband Al Carpenter Sr. and son, Al Carpenter Jr., build three successful businesses, Al’s Wild Trout Ltd., Shinhopple, and Al’s Sport Store/Downsville Motel.

Full of life, Beulah was always smiling and all that came her way felt happy.

The daughter of the late Raymond and Sadie King McQuiston, she was born at the family’s homestead in Cronomer Valley, Newburgh, on July 27, 1922.

She is survived by her loving son, Al Carpenter of Downsville; daughter, Diane Crews of Binghamton; devoted grandchildren, Sarah Crews of Berkshire, Stephen Crews and Jacqueline Malec of Mullica Hill, N.J., and Aleida and Lenny Davis; her two great-grandsons, Stephen and Trevor Davis of Newark Valley, N.J.; her sisters, Dorothy Norvell and Marion Thorn; brothers-in-law, Walter Michaels and Robert Thorne of Newburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband; son-in-law, Stephen E. Crews; her sisters, Aleida Ruth Patterson, Evelyn Langlitz and Elaine Michaels; and her brothers, Ralph, Earl and Myron McQuiston.

Friends and family are invited to visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Avenue, Roscoe. Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Modena Rural Cemetery, Route 32, north of Plattekill, where she will be laid to rest with her husband of 56 years, Albert Carpenter Sr.

Memorial contributions in honor of Beulah’s memory may be made to the Resident Council Fund, c/o Roscoe Regional Rehabilitation & Residential Heath Care Facility, 420 Rockland Road, Roscoe, NY 12776-6420 in recognition of the compassionate staff who cared for her well and kindly.
