Susan L. Bliss
MILFORD — Susan L. Bliss, 80, of Milford, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at home surrounded by her family.
She was born July 30, 1933, in the town of Middlefield, the daughter of the late Clifford and Ada C. (Hodges) Smith.
On Oct. 16, 1949, Susan married John L. Bliss in Milford. John predeceased her on March 7, 1992.
In her younger years, Susan enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks, fishing, snowmobiling and other outdoor activities and getting together with family and playing cards. She enjoyed the many family summer vacations, traveling the country. She also loved square dancing and going to stock car races.
Susan was a talented creative crafter and loved gardening, tending to her flowers, watching and feeding the birds, doing word search puzzles, going for evening and Sunday drives looking for deer and going to lawn sales.
She also enjoyed watching “The Waltons” and “Little House on the Prairie” and was an avid “Days of Our Lives” fan having watched it since it came on years ago.
But Susan’s greatest joy was her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed.
Susan was a member of the Portlandville United Methodist Church.
Susan is survived by her daughter, Linda and Henry Cook of Portlandville; grandson, Michael and Terry Mulkins of Mount Vision; great-grandson, Jody Mulkins of Oneonta; three sisters-in-law, Elaine Bliss, Patricia Ventre and Shirley Bliss; brother-in-law, George Miller; cousin, Katherine Yager; as well as several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Lou Ann Bliss.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, in the funeral home with the Rev. MaryEllen Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery, Hartwick Seminary.
