GASTONIA, N.C. — Alice E. (Himes) Williams, 83, formerly of the Oneonta area, passed away on Feb. 10, 2013, at the Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia, N.C., following a brief bout of pneumonia complicated by a sudden heart attack.
She was born April 19, 1929, in Cooperstown. She was the daughter of Eleanor (VanDuesen) Hickling of Hartwick.
She was a hard working employee of the former Oneonta Family Cleaners for over 30 years.
She lived in the Oneonta area until 2001, when she moved to Gastonia, N.C. She resided at the Gaston Manor Assisted Living from 2009 until her death. She was a two time breast cancer survivor.
She enjoyed word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and her favorite television show was Bonanza.
She married Wilbur J. Himes on April 3, 1948, at the Main Street Baptist Church in Oneonta. He passed away on May 1, 1965, after a battle with cancer. On Aug. 2, 1968, she married Robert R. Williams and had one daughter.
She is survived by daughters, Gloria (Curtis) Schoen (Long Island), Gail (George) McGarrity (Centreville, Md.), Patricia (Steven) LaPlante (Conway, S.C.), Cynthia (Tod) Beers (Norman, Okla.), Deborah (James) Harper (Hartwick), and Candace Worley (Gastonia, N.C.), 12 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Oneonta Plains Cemetery in May. Final arrangements will be made through Bookout Funeral Home.
