ROXBURY — Henry E. Weisgerber II, 83, of Roxbury, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at his home after a long and valiant battle with cancer.
Henry was born in the Bronx on Aug.15, 1929, the son of Henry and Helen (Cornell) Weisgerber.
Henry’s love of the Catskill Mountains made him a longtime resident.
He was active in Revolutionary War reenactments and Civil War reenactments.
Mountain man history was of particular interest, and he enjoyed many years of involvement in this passion.
Known to many of his friends as “Dirt Dog,” Henry was also highly involved in the Catskill Mountain Rail Raiders club, entertaining many people on the scenic train ride in Arkville.
Henry served our country in the U.S. Army.
He was loved by many for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.
He retired from Bell Telephone Company.
Surviving are his brother, Arthur and his wife, Barbara Weisgerber, of North Carolina; daughters, Karen and husband, Mihail Branzburg, Erica and husband, Chris Bray, Enid Hulse and companion, Shayne Shaffer; son, Arne and wife, Ruth Weisgerber; step-daughter, Lynn, and husband, Brad Keator; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many close friends.
Henry was predeceased by his sister, Merial Mulholland; son, Henry Weisgerber III and son, Karl John Weisgerber.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville, with the Rev. Paul Catena, celebrant.
Committal services will follow at the Margaretville cemetery annex.
Calling hours will be held at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Donations in Henry E. Weisgerber’s memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice.
